Asthma Treatment in Newport Beach

Breathe Easier with Help from West Coast Lung

Asthma is a chronic disease that causes inflammation in your lungs. The inflammation narrows your airways and makes it hard for you to breathe. When your lungs become inflamed, your airways become irritated and swollen, resulting in a decrease in airflow. Cells in your airways can also produce large amounts of mucus, making it even more difficult to breathe. Although there is no cure, asthma can be managed with proper testing and treatment. At West Coast Lung, our expert, Dr. Rutland offers highly effective asthma treatment in Newport Beach, so you get back to enjoying daily life.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

During your first appointment, we will perform a full pulmonary workup – spirometry, lung ultrasound, EKG, pulse oximetry, and a full patient intake to learn about your medical history, activity, and goals. Depending on your symptoms, a walk test and echo may also be used. Oftentimes, labs will be drawn, and, in some cases, a bronchoscopy, biopsy, chest x-ray, and/or CT scan will be needed to garner further information.

Continuation of Care

Treatment for asthma is individualized and the continuation of care is dependent upon personal protoplasm, severity, reaction to medicine, and your own specific needs. Asthma is not a one-stop-shop and all our patients are monitored frequently.

Who We Work With

Dr. Rutland has worked with athletes, local restaurant owners, and musicians – many of whom sought treatment to improve their ability to nurture their talent. However, our primary patient base includes patients of all ages, all activity levels, and a variation of severity.

Contact our office immediately if you are experiencing a frequent cough, wheezing, or have any other symptoms of asthma. Treating asthma early can prevent long-term lung damage and stop the progression of the disease.
