E-Cig Vaping Associated Lung Injury (EVALI) Treatment in Newport Beach

Experienced Care for Your Lung Health

In August of 2019, the CDC saw a spike in vaping-related lung injuries – these injuries were severe and sometimes fatal. Symptoms ranged from shortness of breath to fever and even though the CDC has linked Vitamin E acetate to these lung injuries, it is not yet clear if other ingredients could also be linked. Vaping can also exacerbate underlying lung conditions such as asthma, which can cause irreversible lung damage. That’s why it’s important to seek treatment for vaping-related lung injuries from mild shortness of breath to more extreme cases that can cause the lungs to stop functioning altogether. If you live in Orange County and are experiencing symptoms, see Dr. Rutland for e-cig vaping associated lung Injury (EVALI) treatment in Newport Beach.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

During your first appointment, we will perform a full pulmonary workup – spirometry, lung ultrasound, EKG, pulse oximetry, and a full patient intake to learn about history, activity, and your goals. Depending on your symptoms, a walk test and echo may also be used. Oftentimes, labs will be drawn, and, in some cases, a bronchoscopy, biopsy, chest x-ray, and/or CT scan will be needed to garner further information.

Continuation of Care

Treatment for EVALI is personalized, and the continuation of care is dependent upon the severity, reaction to medicine, and your own specific needs. If left untreated, EVALI can cause irreversible damage so it is important to seek help as soon as possible.

Additional Support

We work with patients of all ages and are here to be a non-judgmental support system for you. We are here to provide resources to help you stop smoking, manage lung infections, improve lung function, and live an overall healthier and happier life.
