Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) Treatment in Newport Beach

Specialized Care for Your Lung Health

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis is the scarring of the lungs with no known cause. Early symptoms include a bothersome cough leading to more severe symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and anxiety. IPF is a progressive disease so, if left untreated, damaging cellular communication will continue to cause scarring to your lungs making it increasingly hard to breathe. Eventually, respiratory failure can develop which is a life-threatening condition. Many people ignore mild symptoms, so most cases go undiagnosed in the early phase of the disease process. It is important to get chronic symptoms evaluated and seek Dr. Rutland for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) treatment in Newport Beach

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

During your first appointment, we will perform a full pulmonary workup – spirometry, lung ultrasound, EKG, pulse oximetry, and a full patient intake to learn about history, activity, and your goals. Depending on your symptoms, a walk test and echo may also be used. Oftentimes, labs will be drawn, and, in some cases, a bronchoscopy, biopsy, chest x-ray, and/or CT Scan will be needed to garner further information.

Continuation of Care

An important part of IPF is to first rule out other lung conditions. Once an IPF diagnosis has been determined, Dr. Rutland works to slow bad cellular communication. Continuation of care is life-long and based on the severity of your condition. However, as an expert in this disease, Dr. Rutland will manage your symptoms and work to prevent further damage to your lungs. IPF can be managed to lead to an overall happier and healthier life.
